Busy season is fully upon us, and I am so far behind on blogging, it is not even funny. Fall is by far my busiest season, and this year is no exception. Most photographers will tell you, whether they specialize in families, weddings, or seniors, that October is always a crazy month. I struggle every year trying to balance family life, scheduling sessions with Nebraska's unpredictable weather, and spending countless hours in front of the computer editing, bookkeeping, blogging, staying present on social media, and all the other forms of correspondence that goes on as a business owner. As far as a social life, I have no social life between September and December. That means no Husker games, no Halloween parties, no get-togethers, just a few hours here and there where I am lucky enough to spend time with my kids spoiling them at the pumpkin patch or taking a trip to the park. I am just looking forward to a couple of very short Thanksgiving celebrations with our family next month! I am so grateful for this career that God has chosen for me, but man, some days I just want to curl up in a ball and wake up on Christmas morning!
Although I am drained as we are winding down on October (and having a bit of a pity party too), my heart is abundantly full as I get to spend all these gorgeous fall evenings with family after family creating memories for them that will last a lifetime. Playing games, and acting silly, and getting genuine moments from all of these families while creating art is what keeps me going.
This was the first time that I photographed this family, and in fact, they were the first family to kick off my official fall season. They traveled from the Columbus area and we had lots of fun during our time together. Mom had them all dressed perfectly and everyone was full of laughter. They were the perfect example of why I love my job so much! We did a mixture of traditional posed family portraits, and had some unposed, candid portraits, as well.
I don't have much else to say about this session, because I feel that the joy in these portraits speak for themselves! Here are just a few of my favorites from this fall family portrait session.
