One of the biggest questions seniors have before their session is: What should I wear? The right outfit choices can make a huge difference in how your photos look and how confident you feel in front of the camera. At KP Photography in Norfolk, Nebraska, I want your senior portraits to reflect your personality while also standing the test of time. Here are my top tips for choosing outfits that will make your senior photo session in Northeast Nebraska a success:
Bring a mix of casual and dressy outfits. A favorite pair of jeans and a cute top might capture your everyday style, while a dress or button-up shirt can add a polished look. Having a variety means you’ll get more unique images in your gallery.
Trends come and go, but senior portraits are meant to last a lifetime. Solid colors, simple patterns, and classic cuts tend to photograph beautifully. Think about what you’ll love to see hanging on your wall five, ten, or twenty years from now.
Plan your outfits around the locations you want to have in your photographs. Neutrals and earthy tones always look amazing against the Nebraska countryside or sunset skies. A trendy outfit, or fun heels look great either in the studio or with cityscapes for the background.
Jackets, cardigans, hats, jewelry, or scarves can give you different looks without a full outfit change. Accessories also add personality and help you feel more like you in your session.
Bold graphics, busy prints, or large logos can take attention away from you. Your senior portraits should be about your face, your smile, and your story—not the label on your shirt.
Most importantly, wear outfits that feel like you. Whether you’re into sports, music, agriculture, or fashion, your clothing is another way to tell your story. If it makes you feel confident and comfortable, it’s the right choice.
After photographing seniors for more than a decade, I’ve learned that the best senior sessions come from a good mix of outfits and a little bit of planning ahead of time. I always encourage seniors to bring several options so we can create a gallery with variety; from casual and relaxed to polished and dramatic. During the session, I’ll help guide you on what outfits work best with the location, lighting, and overall look we’re creating. My goal is always to make the process feel easy and fun while helping you walk away with images that feel natural, confident, and completely you.
